Established in 1992, the Ontario Search & Rescue Volunteer Association is a provincially recognized, not-for-profit, volunteer based organization that supports the ground SAR teams in Ontario.

All OSARVA volunteers must complete these minimum requirements to become operational:

The Ground SAR Basic Course which includes:
- Map & Compass navigation skills
- Clue detection and awareness
- Search patterns
- Personal equipment
- Environmental conditions
- ICS 100

All OSARVA volunteers must pass a criminal reference check
